U-14 Girls - Team Magic Off to Impressive Start of
Indoor Season
Team
Magic is off to an impressive start of the indoor season
with successive victories over Hamilton-Wenham and
Gloucester. In its first game against Hamilton-Wenham,
Team Magic posted a 9-0 victory. The offensive
explosion was led by Kelsey Murray’s hat-trick (3 goals)
as well as goals from Julia Riley, Mia Sweeney, Isabel
Anderson and Anna McElroy. The shut-out was led by
goalies, Pamela Gregory and Tori Smith as well as
excellent team defense by Annie Ryan, Jessica Attridge
Sara Snadecki and Maddy Van Dussen. According to coach
to Jack Attridge, “the girls’ hustle and accurate
passing was the key to the victory”. Coach Tom Ryan
commented that he was “particularly impressed with the
girls ability to challenge every offensive attack and
turn it into a breakaway in Team Magic’s favor”.
Team Magic look equally good in its second contest
against Gloucester winning 8-1. After a relatively slow
start in which both teams moved the ball well, but
neither scored, Team Magic opened the scoring by
terrific goals from Kelsey M and Anna McE. Annie R.
added to the scoring by kicking the ball from mid-field
just over the out-stretched hands of the Gloucester
goalie.
Julia R then put the game out of reach when she lit-up
the scoreboard by drilling four goals in just over 3
minutes. In addition to Julia’s excellent individual
effort, these goals were the result of pin-point passing
from her teammates, Jessica A, Mimi G, and Mia S.
Again, the team defense, particularly clearing the ball
from its own zone, was outstanding. Tori S, Maddy V.
and Isabel A had complete command of their own zone. In
addition, both Sara S and Kelsey M played excellent in
the net. Gloucester’s only goal coming half-way through
the second half on a penalty kick.
Despite the two blow-out victories, the never-satisfied
coaching staff is hoping to see more “back-passes” and
better movement without the ball in the games to come.
